Coorparoo Bowls Club has been secured for continued sporting and community use after Griffin Hospitality Group bought the 97-year-old Brisbane venue for $6 million.
ABC News reported that both greens will be retained, with one continuing to host competition bowls and the other available for casual play. The new owner also plans to renovate the clubhouse, bar and kitchen.
The club's existing committee is expected to continue operating under a five-year lease, giving members continuity while the venue is upgraded.
Bowls Queensland said it rejected a higher offer because preserving bowls and community access was central to the sale. The agreement avoids the demolition and high-rise redevelopment that supporters feared could follow a conventional property sale.
