Brisbane's plans for international cricket after the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will include a wicket prepared at the Gabba and later transferred to the new Victoria Park stadium.
Stadiums Queensland says a full-sized wicket tray will be installed beside the Gabba's existing wicket block. It will use the same dimensions, clay base, soil and turf before being monitored and tested through practice, domestic and first-class cricket.
The tray is scheduled to move after the Games, with the new 63,000-seat venue expected to be ready for international cricket in the 2032–33 season. Stadiums Queensland says preparing the surface in advance avoids the three-year establishment period normally required for a Test-quality wicket.
ABC News reported that Premier David Crisafulli would not disclose the specific cost, saying it would sit within the $7.1 billion Games infrastructure envelope.
