Central Queensland producers are repairing damaged equipment, fencing and paddocks after a series of bushfires arrived unusually early in spring.
ABC Rural reported that fires have killed livestock and damaged agricultural properties near Rockhampton and Gladstone. At one Port Curtis property, a fast-moving blaze destroyed a chicken coop and burned almost all of a 15-hectare holding.
Multiple fires have occurred across the region since September 1, with Watch and Act advice issued for eight blazes. The Bureau of Meteorology recorded Queensland's driest winter in six years, while rainfall across central Queensland was well below average.
Rural Fire Service officers are urging landholders to maintain a fire plan, take care when using machinery and postpone hazard-reduction burns until sufficient rain has fallen. Queensland Fire Department guidance says people should monitor official warnings and call Triple Zero if a fire threatens life or property.
