Australian energy ministers have endorsed a national technical regulatory framework for consumer energy resources.
The Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council endorsed the framework on 11 September 2026. It is designed to establish common technical rules for products such as home batteries, rooftop solar inverters and electric-vehicle supply equipment.
The framework will support a National Consumer Energy Resources Technical Code and set obligations for suppliers and installers. Regulated products will need to be installed by accredited installers.
Officials say nationally consistent requirements should help consumers, industry and electricity networks as more households adopt connected energy technology.
Implementation details and the technical code will determine how the framework operates in practice.
