The Brisbane Lions have won a third consecutive AFL premiership after a remarkable late comeback delivered a 14.12 (96) to 12.17 (89) victory over Fremantle at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Fremantle led by 17 points with fewer than five minutes remaining, but Brisbane surged home with four unanswered goals. Charlie Cameron and Zac Bailey reduced the margin before Logan Morris put the Lions in front in the final minute and the defending premiers finished seven points clear.
The result completed Brisbane's third straight flag and its fourth consecutive grand-final appearance. Fremantle had controlled long stretches of the contest and suffered a further blow when captain Alex Pearce left the field with an apparent Achilles injury.
Fremantle's Shai Bolton received the Norm Smith Medal after recording 26 disposals and a game-high 690 metres gained. Brisbane coach Chris Fagan praised the Dockers after the match while pointing to his team's determination in another close finals contest.
