Dredging and beach nourishment work has begun at Moore Park Beach as Bundaberg Regional Council responds to severe erosion and a major shift in the mouth of Moore Park Creek.
Council says the first stage will temporarily relocate the creek entrance closer to its 2020 position, close the northern channel and reuse excavated sand within the coastal system. The work is intended to help sand move back toward the beach while a longer-term Shoreline Erosion Management Plan is prepared.
Survey data cited by council shows about five metres of coastline was lost in the year after ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred affected the area. Flooding earlier in 2026 also shifted the creek mouth roughly 200 metres north, reducing the beach and dune buffer near public assets.
The temporary creek relocation is expected to provide two to three years of benefit. Council's staged plan also proposes a detached breakwater near Bob Nielsen Park and a longer-term management program extending beyond 2027, subject to assessment and approvals.
