A one-tonne consignment of popped makhana from Purnea in Bihar has been dispatched for export to Greece, India’s Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority says.

The shipment was sourced in Purnea and is being exported through an Indian trading company. It is due to travel from Mundra Port to Piraeus Port in Greece.

APEDA said the transaction achieved a higher price than the prevailing domestic selling price, highlighting the potential for export-oriented value chains to improve returns for producers. The authority facilitated the shipment as part of efforts to widen overseas market access for Bihar’s traditional crop.

The consignment is a modest one-tonne shipment, but it provides a practical market test for future exports rather than proof of a large established trade flow.
