Cairns residents can meet local emergency services and get practical severe-weather preparation advice at a free community event on Saturday 10 October.

Cairns Regional Council says Get Ready Emergency Services Day will run from 9am to noon at Esplanade Plaza as part of Get Ready Queensland Week. The family-friendly program is set to include preparedness displays, emergency-service demonstrations, activities and a sausage sizzle.

Visitors can ask about preparing for cyclones, flooding, storm surge and other local risks. The council also encourages households to know their risks, make a plan and assemble essential supplies ahead of the severe-weather season.

The event is free. Residents wanting live road, power, weather or evacuation information should use the Cairns Disaster Dashboard, not this event announcement.
