A free short-course program for small and family businesses has begun in Far North Queensland, with Cairns hosting the first round of the Queensland Government's micro-credentials initiative.
The government said on 20 October that almost 80 businesses had started in-person or online learning. The available subjects include practical artificial intelligence, business planning, continuity and resilience, and workforce development. The AI component is being delivered by the University of the Sunshine Coast, according to the announcement.
Officials say the program is backed by $11.5 million and offers flexible learning intended to fit around business operations. Online and self-paced options are available; the government says more regional face-to-face offerings will follow in 2027.
Businesses considering enrolment should check the official course page for current eligibility, places and schedules. The announced number refers to participants who have started, not to businesses that have completed a course or achieved a measured improvement.
