Registrations have opened for the 2027 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games in Cairns, with organisers hoping to make the next edition the event's largest yet.
Cairns Regional Council announced the launch on Monday 12 October. Mayor Amy Eden and Games ambassador Mark Knowles joined the launch, the council's release says.
According to the council, the 2025 Games brought more than 4,180 athletes, supporters and visitors to the region and generated an estimated $3.65 million in local economic impact. Organisers say they are aiming to surpass $4 million in 2027. These are council estimates and a future target, not confirmed results for 2027.
The biennial Games began in 2013 and feature five days of sport. Prospective participants can find current registration details through the official Games website. The event is presented by Cairns Regional Council and Tourism and Events Queensland.
