Townsville-based Outback Pie Co. is set to receive about $524,000 through Queensland's Transforming Queensland Manufacturing Grants Program to install new production equipment, the state government announced on 14 October.
The government says the proposed equipment will automate parts of dough handling, filling, forming and packaging. It expects the project to create 24 jobs and provide upskilling opportunities for existing staff; those are forecasts, not jobs already created.
Manufacturing Minister Dale Last said 18 companies were successful in the program's first round, sharing $12.5 million, and 11 of the recipients were based in regional Queensland.
Outback Pie Co. managing director Milo Gaffney said the investment would help the company meet demand for its baked goods. The announcement does not specify when the equipment will be installed.
